Answer Engine Optimization Companies (2026)
Judge an AEO company on one thing: what share of the programme happens off your own website. That is the part that decides whether you get cited.
Publishes a full rate card: Orange Marketing, $6,950 audit and $6,950/mo on a three-month programme. Newport Beach, and the only one on the SERP with a public price.
Productised, price public: Cognizo, platform $499/mo, done-for-you $899/mo.
Established agencies with an AEO practice: Marcel Digital (Chicago), Elsner (India, US, Canada). Both quote on a call.
Watch for: programmes whose deliverables are entirely schema, FAQ blocks and alt text. That is on-site hygiene, and the mechanism that gets you quoted is off-site.
Answer engine optimization is a young enough category that the word means different things to different sellers. Some are running a genuine third-party mention programme. Some are running an on-site technical SEO project with a new label on the invoice. Both are sold with the same page title.
This list sorts the companies ranking for this term by what they publish and what they actually deliver, and flags which results are not companies at all.
Disclosure: MentionAgent is our own product. It is outreach software, not an AEO company, so it is not ranked among the firms below. It appears at the end because the off-site half of AEO is what it does. We also publish our own measurement of assistant mention rates, which is the number this category is built on.
We checked the US top 10 for answer engine optimization companies on 26 August 2026 and opened every result.
Two of the six ranking results were not companies: a Reddit thread at position 2 and a listicle of agencies at position 5.
Only one firm on the page publishes a price, and it is not the biggest name. Orange Marketing at Open PageRank 1.72 publishes a full two-tier rate card; the larger agencies above it publish nothing.
This is not an authority-gated result set. Two of the six ranking domains sit below Open PageRank 1.75, which is roughly our own weight.
Our own baseline, from 4,598 assistant answers across 1,522 queries: brands were mentioned in 4.6%. Full method in the AI citation study.
The sources are somebody else's website. We pulled every source cited in those answers, refreshed on 26 August 2026: 45,567 citations across 12,880 distinct domains.
Why it matters here: this is the clearest evidence we have for the on-site versus off-site argument below.
The AI citation study analyses an earlier cut of the same corpus.
The most-cited domain in the entire corpus was reddit.com, appearing in 11.6% of all sourced answers. Then apps.apple.com, medium.com and youtube.com.
Not one of those is a page anybody optimised with schema markup. The top of this list is community, app stores and video, and none of it is reachable through on-site technical work.
The tail is where the volume is: the top ten domains carry only 8.5% of citations, and 58.6% of cited domains appeared exactly once.
Caveat: our query mix reflects our customers' niches rather than the open web, and scans run on cheaper model tiers. The shape of the distribution is the finding, not the specific brand names.
The on-site and off-site split, and why it decides everything
Assistants build answers from sources. To be quoted you have to be in the source set, and to be in the source set you generally have to be written about somewhere the model already trusts.
On-site work makes an existing page easier to parse. Schema markup, question-shaped headings, FAQ blocks, clean crawlability, alt text. All of it is worth doing, and none of it puts you into an answer you are currently absent from. If a model has never encountered your brand in a context it trusts, better markup on your own site does not change that.
Off-site work changes the source set. Getting mentioned in roundups, comparisons, guides and news on sites in your niche. This is earned media pointed at a new target, and it is the mechanism that actually moves citation. Our GEO guide works through the evidence.
Most published AEO deliverable lists are heavily weighted to the first. Look at Orange Marketing's, which is unusually transparent and therefore a fair example: schema markup recommendations, FAQ sections, one pillar page plus four supporting posts, knowledge blocks, image alt text. That is a competent on-site programme. Ask what in it earns you a mention on somebody else's website.
That is not an accusation of bad faith. On-site work is easier to scope, easier to deliver on a schedule, and easier to show in a report. Off-site work depends on other people saying yes. The incentive runs toward the deliverable that can be guaranteed, which is exactly why you have to ask.
How to judge an AEO company
1. Ask for the ratio. What percentage of the monthly fee produces mentions on domains you do not own? If the answer is vague or zero, you are buying technical SEO.
2. Make them name your prompts. AEO is measured on questions, not keywords. A firm that cannot list twenty questions your buyers actually ask has not done the analysis that makes the rest meaningful.
3. Insist on a dated baseline before work starts. Mention rate and citation rate on a fixed prompt list. Without it, every later number is unfalsifiable.
4. Separate mention rate from citation rate. They diverge sharply by engine. We measured citation in 98.9% of Gemini answers and 98.6% of Claude answers but only 73.6% of ChatGPT answers, so a citation-only metric quietly understates ChatGPT performance.
5. Discount guarantees entirely. Nobody places anything inside a model. A promise of specific citations is either sponsored placement described loosely or a promise nobody can keep.
The companies
| Company | Shape | Base | Published pricing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Orange Marketing | Productised AEO programme | Newport Beach, CA | $6,950 audit, $6,950/mo |
| 2. Cognizo | Platform plus done-for-you | United States | $499/mo, $899/mo DFY |
| 3. Marcel Digital | B2B digital agency, AEO practice | Chicago, IL | None |
| 4. Elsner | Enterprise digital, AEO practice | Ahmedabad, plus US and Canada | None, free audit offered |
| 5. Briskon | AEO services | Could not check | Could not check |
Verified on each company's own site on 26 August 2026. "None" means no number was publicly stated, not that it is cheap. Briskon's pages returned no readable content on our checks, so it is recorded as could not check rather than as zero.
1. Orange Marketing: the only public rate card on the page
Shape: Productised AEO across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude.
Pricing: $6,950 for Quick Wins AEO, an assessment and full audit. $6,950 per month for Essential AEO Implementation, a three-month programme.
Based on Bayside Drive in Newport Beach, California. Deliverables are stated openly: a full audit, content analysis, brand mention assessment and a priority action plan up front, then monthly schema markup recommendations, FAQ sections, one pillar page plus four supporting blog posts, knowledge blocks and image alt text across a set page count.
Best for: Companies that want a fixed scope and a fixed price rather than an open-ended retainer, and who value knowing the number before the first call.
Trade-offs: The published deliverables are predominantly on-site. The brand mention assessment is in the audit rather than the monthly work, so ask specifically what the recurring fee does to earn external mentions. A three-month minimum at this rate is roughly $20,850 committed on signature.
2. Cognizo: the software-to-service bridge
Shape: Platform for AI search optimisation with a done-for-you tier on top.
Pricing: Platform from $499 per month for teams running their own strategy, with insights, content agents, prompt research and traffic analytics. Done-for-You from $899 per month, handling research, content publishing and lead generation. Enterprise custom, with a dedicated strategist.
A US company that also partners with agencies. The $400 step between self-serve and done-for-you is the clearest published statement anywhere of what the execution labour costs at entry level, and it is a useful number to hold in your head when a larger firm quotes several thousand for a similar-sounding scope.
Best for: Teams who want to start by running it themselves and keep the option to hand over execution without switching vendor.
Trade-offs: Automated content publishing is the piece to interrogate. Ask what gets published, under whose name, and how much of it lands anywhere other than your own domain.
3. Marcel Digital: an established B2B agency with an AEO practice
Shape: Digital marketing and web development agency, with AEO as a named service.
Pricing: Not published.
Based at North Wacker Drive in Chicago, Illinois. It frames its work around accelerating enterprise value for B2B companies across marketing, measurement and technology, with AEO positioned against Google AI Overviews, Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. This is the shape to pick if you want AEO handled inside a broader marketing relationship rather than as a standalone project.
Best for: B2B companies who already need web development and analytics work and would rather not add a specialist vendor for AEO alone.
Trade-offs: AEO is one service among many, so ask how many people work on it full time and what they have measured for existing clients. Quote-only pricing is also priced to your size, so go in with a number.
4. Elsner: enterprise scale, offshore delivery
Shape: Enterprise digital solutions across AI and data, ecommerce, product engineering, digital marketing, enterprise mobility and ERP.
Pricing: Not published. Offers a no-cost quote and a free growth audit.
Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with offices in Fremont and Lakeland in the US and Winnipeg in Canada. Elsner also publishes its own ranked list of AEO companies, which is part of why it appears on this search. The breadth here is genuine and so is the scale, and it is a different proposition from a boutique AEO shop.
Best for: Companies wanting AEO alongside development or ERP work under one vendor, and comfortable with offshore delivery.
Trade-offs: AEO is a small part of a very wide catalogue. The free audit is a lead generator, which is fine as long as you read it as one. Confirm who does the work and in which time zone.
5. Briskon: ranking, but unverifiable from outside
Shape: States an AEO service offer.
Pricing: Could not check.
Briskon ranks on this search at Open PageRank 1.69, which is roughly our own weight and part of why this SERP is worth attention at all. Its pages returned no readable content on our automated checks, so rather than repeat claims from other lists we are recording that we could not verify it. Worth a direct conversation if the positioning fits.
Best for: Unknown from outside. Treat this entry as a pointer for your own check.
Trade-offs: We could not verify the offer or the pricing ourselves.
Also worth knowing: two of the results ranking for this term are not companies. One is a Reddit thread asking who the best AEO agency is, sitting at position 2, and one is a ranked list of sixteen agencies published by a company that sells into the same market. In a category this young, a forum thread outranking every vendor tells you buyers are not yet taking vendor claims at face value.
What the pricing tells you
One published rate card on the whole page, and it belongs to the smallest domain. Orange Marketing publishes $6,950 while larger firms above it publish nothing. That pattern repeats across every service vertical we have measured: transparency correlates with smallness, not with cheapness.
Quote-only pricing is priced to your size. When scoping happens on a call, the number reflects what your company looks like it can pay. State a budget first or the anchor is set for you.
Annualise and add the minimum term. $6,950 a month on a three-month programme is $20,850 committed on signature, and $83,400 if it runs a year. Our digital PR costs guide has the wider picture on how these retainers compare with adjacent services.
The floor is much lower than the SERP suggests. Measurement starts at $99 a month, and the off-site work that drives citation does not require a five-figure retainer. Both halves are available well below what a full programme costs.
If you would rather not hire a company
AEO splits cleanly into measurement and mentions. Measurement is cheap and getting cheaper. Mentions are the part that takes ongoing work, and it is the part most programmes under-serve.
MentionAgent is $99/mo flat and does the mentions half. The agent finds relevant posts in your niche, looks up the author's verified email, writes a pitch tied to the specific article, and sends it once you approve it in Telegram. Follow-ups run until someone replies. No credits, no per-contact fees, no minimum term.
What it does not do: schema, site architecture, or deciding your prompt strategy. If your site is genuinely hard for a crawler to parse, fix that first, and a firm like Marcel Digital or Orange Marketing is the right call. We wrote the honest version of this trade in AI link building vs hiring an agency.
How to pick
Decision tree
- Want a fixed scope and a public price? → Orange Marketing.
- Want to run it yourself with the option to hand over? → Cognizo.
- Already buying web and analytics work from one agency? → Marcel Digital.
- Need AEO bundled with development or ERP at scale? → Elsner.
- Have not measured anything yet? → a platform at $99 to $499/mo, or our free mention checker.
- Do not know which prompts matter? → a consultant, see AI visibility consultant.
- Know the gap is third-party mentions? → MentionAgent at $99/mo.
- Being offered guaranteed citations? → walk, or reprice it as advertising.
The off-site half, without a $6,950 retainer
MentionAgent finds the blogs assistants already cite in your niche, looks up the contacts, writes the pitches, sends them and follows up. $99/mo flat, whatever the volume. No credits, no minimum term.
Start Getting Mentioned On AutopilotFrequently asked questions
What is an answer engine optimization company?
A firm working to get your brand into generated answers rather than blue links. Most sell three things: an audit of current visibility, on-site work like schema and question-shaped content, and off-site work to earn mentions on trusted sources. The third moves citation and is usually the smallest line in the proposal.
How much do AEO companies charge?
Orange Marketing publishes $6,950 for an audit and $6,950/mo on a three-month programme. Cognizo publishes $499/mo for its platform and $899/mo done-for-you. Measurement-only platforms start lower, Profound from $99/mo and Searchable from $125/mo. Most others quote on a call. See digital PR costs for context.
Is AEO different from SEO?
The target differs, the levers mostly do not. AEO aims at being quoted in an answer and measures on prompts rather than keywords, but you become quotable by being mentioned on third-party sources the model trusts. An AEO proposal with no plan to earn external mentions is on-site SEO with a newer name.
Does schema markup get you into AI answers?
It helps a system parse a page it already found, which is worth doing and is not the same as being cited. Schema creates no third-party mentions, so it cannot put you into an answer you are absent from. Treat it as hygiene, and be sceptical of programmes that are almost entirely schema, FAQ blocks and alt text.
How do I measure whether AEO is working?
Fix a prompt list, capture and date your mention rate before work starts, then re-run it on a schedule. Our measurement across 4,598 answers put the overall mention rate at 4.6%. Track mention rate and citation rate separately: we saw citation in 98.9% of Gemini answers but only 73.6% of ChatGPT answers.
