12 Best SEO Automation Tools (2026), by What They Automate
"SEO automation" covers six different jobs: fixing pages, auditing the site, writing content, reporting rankings, wiring tools together, and getting links from other sites. The twelve below are grouped by the job they take off your hands.
Every price was read on the vendor's own site on 13 October 2026.
Pick by the job you want gone. A crawler, a content writer and an outreach tool are not substitutes for each other.
Links and mentions from other sites: MentionAgent, $99/mo.
On-page fixes pushed to your site: Search Atlas OTTO from $99/mo, Alli AI from $299/mo.
Scheduled audits: Screaming Frog $279/yr, Semrush or Ahrefs if you already pay for a suite.
Content: Frase from $39/mo yearly, Surfer.
Client rank reports: SE Ranking.
Automation stops at the reply. In MentionAgent's link-building accounts from 13 September to 12 October 2026, 51% of publisher replies asked for a decision: a price, more details, or a counter-offer.
Runs: 82% finished, 18% timed out.
A finished run: median 12 minutes and 10 new sites; 14% found none.

Ahrefs, Semrush, Surfer and SE Ranking served euro prices to our EU location and would not switch to dollars, so we quote what we could read rather than convert.
1. MentionAgent: links and mentions from other sites
What it automates: the off-page half that the rest of this list leaves out. It reads your site, searches for blog posts in your niche where a mention would fit, finds the editor's address, writes a pitch about that specific post and sends it from a Gmail inbox on a sending domain it registers and warms up for you.
Price: $99/mo Starter with one sending inbox, up to 40 emails a day once warmed, and 5,000 credits. A draft costs 2 credits; finding blogs and contacts is free. Plans go to $629/mo for eight inboxes.
Drafts wait for your approval by default, and you can switch on auto-send once warmup has started. Replies land in a dashboard inbox and are never answered automatically: it drafts a reply when you ask, down to the page and sentence where the link would go. It does not audit your site, write your blog posts or pick your keywords. Pick it if your on-page work is done and the gap is links. Skip it if you want a crawler or a content writer; those are below.
On-page fixes pushed to your site
These go one step past an audit: they change the live pages, usually through a script or plugin, instead of handing a developer a list.
2. Search Atlas OTTO
Search Atlas says OTTO "scans your site and deploys fixes in real time", with an approval mode to "review each change" first. Starter is $99/mo billed monthly for one site, with a 7-day trial; the plan also covers content, rank checks and reporting from a shared credit budget.
3. Alli AI
Alli AI deploys technical and on-page changes across the whole site and installs by WordPress plugin, JavaScript snippet or tag manager. Business is $299/mo ($2,990/yr) for up to 5 sites and 1,250 pages, with no API access. Every plan has a 10-day free trial.
4. Ahrefs
Ahrefs' Patches publishes fixes to your site live, singly or in bulk, and its Site Audit can run always-on. Both are per-project add-ons on top of a plan: the always-on audit from €18.7/mo, Patches in the €180/mo tier. Lite is €119/mo. Ahrefs says it never runs discounts.
Scheduled audits
5. Semrush
Semrush's Site Audit crawls the whole site and lets you schedule automatic audits. Fixing is still yours: Semrush describes the output as "a backlog for dev and content teams". The SEO plan is €134/mo billed monthly; a free plan covers one demo project.
6. Screaming Frog SEO Spider
Desktop software for Windows, macOS and Linux. The paid licence schedules crawls at set intervals and exports the data automatically, or runs entirely from the command line. $279 per licence per year; the free version stops at 500 URLs per crawl.
Content
7. Surfer
Surfer generates outlines, writes and edits with AI, and gives real-time optimisation guidelines as you write; some plans include 1-click internal linking. Standard is €119/mo billed monthly or €99/mo billed yearly.
8. Frase
Frase pitches itself as SEO "end to end: audit, research, writing, publishing, hosting", and its agent "publishes on its own when you let it". Starter is $49/mo month to month or $39/mo billed yearly, capped at 10 articles and 50 audit pages a month, with a 7-day trial and no card.
Rank reports
9. SE Ranking
Daily rank checks on Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, and automated reports sent to clients' inboxes. Core is €109/mo billed monthly, with a 14-day trial and no card. Page-change monitoring needs a higher plan. If client reporting is the whole job, our white label SEO reporting guide covers the dedicated tools.
Workflow builders
10. Gumloop
Gumloop brings no SEO data of its own. You connect DataForSEO, Ahrefs, Search Console or your CMS and build the agent, for example one that bulk-writes titles and meta descriptions, or sends a weekly SEO dashboard to Slack. Pro starts at $37/mo for 20,000 credits, plus an 8% orchestration fee, and unused credits do not roll over.
Other outreach tools
11. Pitchbox
Pitchbox writes personalised outreach at volume, and its AI Reply Agent can negotiate in replies. Pro is $300/mo billed monthly or $210/mo billed yearly, and every plan needs a one-year commitment; Pro includes 2,000 outreach emails. See Pitchbox pricing or MentionAgent vs Pitchbox.
12. Respona
Respona's pricing page sells placements: "content, outreach, and publishing" are included, from $100 per placement on DR 20+ sites, with a standard 28-day turnaround. That makes it a service you buy, not software you run. More in Respona pricing.
Where automation stops: a month of MentionAgent runs
Every tool above automates the part a machine can finish alone. To see where that ends for outreach, we read MentionAgent's own records for its link-building accounts from 13 September to 12 October 2026 (our sales account excluded).
The search side mostly runs unattended. 82% of runs finished and 18% timed out. A finished run took a median of 12 minutes and added a median of 10 new sites; 14% added none.
The replies are a different story. Here is the latest label on every conversation that received a reply in that window:
| What the publisher replied | Share of replies | Needs a person? |
|---|---|---|
| Named a price for the link | 25.4% | Yes: pay or decline |
| Interested, or asked for details | 22.3% | Yes: which page, what to send |
| Counter-offer | 3.1% | Yes |
| Declined | 9.9% | No |
| Spam or off topic | 10.5% | No |
| General, forwarded or confirming | 14.8% | Sometimes |
| Not classified | 14.0% | Unknown |
So about half of all replies carried a decision about money or terms. That is why MentionAgent drafts a reply when you ask and leaves the decision and the send to you.
How to pick
Decision tree
- Pages are in good shape, rankings stall, few sites link to you? → MentionAgent.
- Want fixes made on the live site, not a report? → Search Atlas OTTO or Alli AI.
- Already pay for a suite? → schedule its audit: Semrush or Ahrefs.
- Want a crawler without a suite? → Screaming Frog.
- Need articles drafted? → Frase or Surfer.
- Agency sending rank reports? → SE Ranking.
- Want to build your own pipeline? → Gumloop.
For the outreach side in more depth, see automated link building tools, link building on autopilot and the autonomous SEO agent page. If you want AI search visibility rather than rankings, start with LLM SEO tools.
Automate the off-page half
MentionAgent finds blog posts on your topic, looks up the editor and drafts a pitch about that post, then sends from a warmed inbox it sets up for you. From $99/mo, with a free trial that shows real drafts first.

What is the best SEO automation tool?
There is no single one, because each tool automates a different job. For on-page fixes deployed to your site, Search Atlas OTTO or Alli AI. For scheduled audits, Semrush or Screaming Frog. For content, Surfer or Frase. For rank reports, SE Ranking. For links and mentions from other sites, MentionAgent, from $99 a month.
Can SEO be fully automated?
Not end to end. Crawls, rank checks, reports, on-page changes, drafts and outreach emails can all run on a schedule. Decisions still need a person: in a month of MentionAgent runs, 51% of the replies publishers sent named a price, asked for details or made a counter-offer.
Is there a free SEO automation tool?
Partly. Screaming Frog is free up to 500 URLs per crawl. Semrush has a free plan with one demo project. SE Ranking, Frase, Alli AI and Search Atlas offer trials. MentionAgent's trial shows real outreach drafts for your site before you pay.
Which part of SEO is hardest to automate?
Links from other sites, because a publisher has to say yes. Software can find the sites, find the contact, write the pitch and send it. The reply, which is often a price or a question, still needs someone to decide.
