Horse Training Blogs: 47 Trainers, Riders and Magazines Checked Live

A horse training blog can mean three different things: a professional trainer's site where the writing sells clinics and courses, a rider's own blog about one horse, or an equestrian magazine with a training section. Every existing roundup mixes them and none of them checks whether the author still writes.

We split them. On 11 September 2026 each site below was loaded, given an Ahrefs domain rating, and asked for its own feed so the newest post date could be read directly. Thirty seven of the 47 gave a date and 23 of those had posted in the previous 90 days.

How the list was checked

Twelve searches across horse training, horsemanship, dressage and equestrian blogs produced 150 unique domains, the most of any niche we have run. A hundred and three were dropped after loading: a university, tack and supplement shops with no writing, seven British racehorse trainers' yard sites, a behavioural-research software company, a riding-holiday agency, two horse-racing tipsters and a planner brand. Forty seven remained.

Each survivor was loaded with a browser user agent, looked up against the Ahrefs domain rating API, and asked for its RSS or Atom feed. The newest date in the feed is what the table reports. Thirty seven sites gave one. Six gave no feed and are marked No feed found; for a trainer whose site is a course catalogue that usually means there is no blog to date, not a dead one.

Four sites answered the crawler with a bot challenge rather than a page: horseclass.com, horseandman.com, savvyhorsewoman.com and annablake.com. All four resolve a rating and are in the table without a date.

The trainers who publish

A trainer's blog exists to sell a method, and the good ones are still worth reading for exactly that reason: the writing has to demonstrate the method.

Downunder Horsemanship (downunderhorsemanship.com, DR 49) is Clinton Anderson's site and posted 8 Sep 2026. Warwick Schiller (warwickschiller.com, DR 48) publishes without a readable feed. Dressage Naturally (dressagenaturally.net, DR 44) is Karen Rohlf's, dated 4 Sep 2026. Stacy Westfall (stacywestfall.com, DR 29) last posted 4 Dec 2025.

Julie Goodnight (juliegoodnight.com, DR 38) is one of the best-known names in the set and one of the quietest: the feed stops on 26 Jun 2023. Straightness Training (straightnesstraining.com, DR 33) posted 24 Mar 2026. Carolyn Resnick (carolynresnick.com, DR 30, liberty horsemanship) and Jonathan Field (jonathanfieldhorsemanship.com, DR 23) have no feed we could read.

The classical end is small and active: Maria Cooke (mariacooke.com, DR 19, 17 Feb 2026), Kip Mistral (kipmistral.com, DR 17, 9 May 2026) and Bee and the Horse (beeandthehorse.com, DR 9, the academic art of riding, 6 Aug 2026). Art2Ride (art2ride.com, DR 18) stopped in 1 Mar 2021. Well Balanced Horsemanship (wellbalancedhorsemanship.com), Confident Rider (confidentrider.online, DR 34, rider mindset) and Horsefulness (horsefulnesstraining.com, DR 20) complete the trainer set.

Rider-written blogs

These are people writing about their own horses, and they are the sites a pitch actually lands on, because there is one person reading the inbox.

The Willing Equine (thewillingequine.com, DR 33) is positive-reinforcement training with a blog dated 29 Aug 2026, and it holds the top organic slot for this search. Horse Listening (horselistening.com, DR 32) posted 24 May 2026. Horse Rookie (horserookie.com, DR 42) answers the questions new equestrians ask and is the strongest of the rider blogs.

The Backyard Horse Blog (thebackyardhorseblog.com, DR 15, keeping horses at home, 1 Sep 2026), Budget Equestrian (budgetequestrian.com, DR 22, DIY barn projects), The Sweaty Equestrian (thesweatyequestrian.com, endurance and fitness, 8 Sep 2026), Wild Horses (jessicaeblack.org, 2 Sep 2026) and The Riding Instructor (theridinginstructor.net, for those who teach) all posted in the late summer of 2026.

Decidedly Equestrian (decidedlyequestrian.com, DR 32) does product reviews and company features. Horses & Heels (horsesandheels.com, DR 31) and Your Horse Farm (yourhorsefarm.com, DR 25) are lifestyle blogs. EQUINE Ink (equineink.com), An Equestrian Life (anequestrianlife.com) and The Timid Rider (timidrider.com, Heather Wallace, author and podcast host) round out the group, all dated within 2026.

Magazines and equestrian media

The strongest domains and, unusually for a magazine tier, the most current. The Horse (thehorse.com, DR 75) is equine health and care and posted on the day we checked. Equus (equusmagazine.com, DR 67), Horse & Rider (horseandrider.com, DR 61, western), Practical Horseman (practicalhorsemanmag.com, DR 58, English) and Dressage Today (dressagetoday.com, DR 55) all carried September dates.

Horse Nation (horsenation.com, DR 55), Horse Network (horsenetwork.com, DR 53), Horse Journals (horsejournals.com, DR 57) and The Northwest Horse Source (nwhorsesource.com, DR 37) are the regional and digital titles. Pro Equine Grooms (proequinegrooms.com, DR 38) is an educational resource rather than a magazine and publishes without a feed, as does The Equine Institute (equineinstitute.org, DR 31), which runs science-based horse care courses.

Reading the ratings

Domain Rating is Ahrefs' 0 to 100 estimate of a domain's inbound links, weighted by the strength of the sites linking. Here it runs 8 to 75 with a median of 31. Fifteen sites sit at DR 24 or below and only three at 60 or above, all magazines.

The useful reading is that the trainer sites cluster in the 30s and 40s while the rider blogs cluster under 25. A trainer's site is linked by students and clinic hosts; a rider's blog is linked by other riders. Neither number tells you whether the training advice is sound, and the magazines with the biggest numbers have staff writers who may never have started a colt.

Pitching a trainer or a rider blog

Tack, supplement and apparel brands pitch equestrian sites constantly, and most send the same email to a DR 75 magazine and a DR 8 endurance rider's diary. Those are different asks. The magazine has an advertising department and will point you to it; the rider will run a mention if the product is one she would use, and will say so if it is not.

The trainer sites in the middle are the hardest: they sell their own courses and rarely link out. Read the date column before spending time on any of them, because a trainer whose feed stopped in 2021 has moved to video or to a membership site and is not reading blog pitches. For a rider's own voice, The Willing Equine, Horse Listening and Horse Rookie are current and widely read.

Are horse training blogs still active?

The magazines and rider blogs are; several classic trainer sites are not. Of the 37 sites here that gave a feed date, 23 had posted in the 90 days before 11 September 2026. Julie Goodnight's feed stops in June 2023, Art2Ride in March 2021 and Happy Horse Training in March 2019.

Which of these are western and which are English?

Downunder Horsemanship, Stacy Westfall and Horse & Rider are western. Dressage Naturally, Dressage Today, Practical Horseman, Straightness Training, Art2Ride, Maria Cooke and Bee and the Horse are English, classical or dressage. Most of the rider blogs and the health magazines are not discipline-specific.

Why are four sites shown without a date?

HorseClass, Horse and Man, Savvy Horsewoman and Anna Blake served our crawler a bot challenge instead of a page on 11 September 2026. They are live, their domain ratings resolve, and they are marked "Blocked to our crawler" rather than given a date we did not read.

Ahrefs' 0 to 100 estimate of how many other sites link to a domain, weighted by strength. In this list it runs 8 to 75 with a median of 31. It is here so you can tell a magazine from a trainer from a rider at a glance; it says nothing about whether the training advice is any good.
