How to read the results

This tool fetches the page you enter, reads every <a> tag, and labels each link by its rel attribute. A link with no follow-blocking attribute is dofollow and passes link equity. Anything carrying nofollow, sponsored, or ugc is blocked from passing that equity.

Use the filter buttons to isolate just the nofollow links, or just the external ones. The most useful view for link builders is external + nofollow: that's where you spot placements that didn't give you the dofollow link you expected.

Why this matters for link building

When you run outreach and land a mention, the link is only worth its full SEO value if it's dofollow. Plenty of sites quietly mark outbound links nofollow in author bios, resource lists, or sponsored sections. Before you log a placement as a win, paste the live URL here to confirm what you actually earned, and if it's nofollow, that's your cue to ask the editor for an editorial link instead.

It also works in reverse: check a prospect's existing outbound links before you pitch. A site that gives real dofollow editorial links is a far better target than one that nofollows everything. For the bigger picture, read how to build backlinks and white hat link building.

Frequently asked questions

What is a nofollow link?

A nofollow link is a hyperlink with rel="nofollow" (or rel="sponsored" / rel="ugc") in its HTML. It tells search engines not to pass link equity to the destination. A dofollow link has no such attribute, so it passes equity and can influence rankings.

How do I check if a link is dofollow or nofollow?

Enter the page URL into this tool. It fetches the page, reads every anchor tag, and labels each link dofollow, nofollow, sponsored, or ugc based on its rel attribute. You can also right-click a link, choose Inspect, and look for rel in the anchor tag.

Do nofollow links count for SEO?

Since 2019 Google treats nofollow as a hint rather than a strict rule, so some nofollow links may be counted. But the reliable ranking value comes from dofollow editorial links. Nofollow links still drive referral traffic and brand exposure and keep a link profile looking natural.

Why does my guest post or backlink show as nofollow?

Many sites add rel="nofollow" or rel="sponsored" to outbound links by default, especially in author bios, sponsored sections, or user-generated areas. If you earned a placement expecting a dofollow link, this tool confirms what you actually got so you can follow up with the editor.

Do I need a Chrome extension to check nofollow links?

No. A browser extension highlights nofollow links one page at a time and needs installing. This tool runs in any browser, checks a full page on demand, and gives you a clean count of dofollow, nofollow, sponsored, and ugc links with the exact rel values.
